Ujjwala scheme get delayed in Karnataka

Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY), have been launched from more than 10 months ago but thousands of families living below the poverty line (BPL) across the State are still depending on kerosene and firewood for cooking, as the project is yet to be implemented here in Karnataka state.

About Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana

  • PMUY was launched on May 1, 2016 .
  • Main aim  was of providing liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) connections to 5 crore BPL households, identified based on the 2011 socio-economic caste census.

Sources said that delay is  because Karnataka being the only State that has voluntarily come forward to improve the scheme by sharing the cost.

A Government official said that  – “The Centre is not implementing the scheme even though memorandums have been submitted, said officials of the Food and Civil Supplies Department.”

Also under this scheme to promote Over 80,000 people across the State have given up their LPG subsidy to help people from BPL families to get benefits of the PMUY, in response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘GiveItUp’ campaign.

Currently, the PMUY has been launched in Gujarat, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Rajasthan, Odisha, Uttarakhand, Bihar, and Madhya Pradesh.

    hello we are very poor, we have a small hut, we don’t have any government scheme at karnataka in shiggaon taluk Bankapur, we also applied the scheme of ujjwal gas scheme 2 times by purasabe bankapur but not sanction, only rich mans
    & government job holders got the scheme. .. so how can we expect india was changed &growth
