PMAY Urban: Union Urban Development Minister M Venkaiah Naidu said that over 20,00000 houses have been approved under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) which was launched two years ago. The Affordable Housing Scheme covered 4,720 cities and towns to provides an affordable house for urban poor. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu also attended the function.
In the foundation laying ceremony of PMAY Urban in Andhra Pradesh’s Vijayawada town of 1,09,000 houses, the minister said the scale of housing scheme is continuing to grow in the three years of the Narendra Modi government.
He said that in the region of previous UPA government only 13,82,768 houses has approved in the during of its ten-year rule whereas in the Modi’s government region 20,00000 houses have been approved in the three years.
The minister also said that “If something done in 10 years by others could be achieved in just under three years, I think it is good enough evidence on the ground of being a government with a difference.”
Ensuring housing for all by 2020 as a “challenging task” and the government expected the political and administrative leaders in the states and city governments take initiative for the rise of the success of the scheme.
He also said, “The Central government has done all that it could do in the form of putting in place an enabling ecosystem and will fulfill its commitment of central assistance.”
