Today, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami launched the introduction of smart card scheme for all the ration holders in the State.
Speaking after handing over the new cards to the beneficiaries at a function got up in the city, he assured that all projects promised and proposed by former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa would be implemented.
He said the launch of smart card was yet another example to show that this government was keen on continuing the schemes of Amma. He said smart ration cards will be distributed to 1.89 crore ration card holders belonging to 34,840 fair price shops in Tamil Nadu. Out of the total 6.90 crore beneficiaries, aadhaar details of 5.85 crore card holders has been already fed into the Smart Ration Card database.
He said the smart card scheme was being implemented at a cost of Rs 330 crore. He said with the introduction of smart cards, consumers no longer needto write physical applications for change of details, address and other things. ”Everything can be done online.
We have given instructions to distribute the cards to all the card holders by May this year”, he added. Mr. Palaniswami said Tamil Nadu was in the forefront of providing good quality rice free of cost to consumers irrespective of their financial background. ”Even major rice producing States like Andhra Pradesh, Punjab, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal don’t have such schemes”, he said.UNI GV CS 1510.
