In New Delhi, the central government will launch a new scheme name as Pradhan Mantri Gram Parivahan Yojana. Under the scheme government will provide the interest-free loan for Women self-help group in the rural area to purchase of small commercial vehicles. The scheme will boost public transport and generate employment.
The expected launched date will August 15. It will be same as Rural roads scheme, ‘Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana’.
Union Rural Development Minister Narendra Singh Tomar told the PTI that “The scheme will be a revolutionary move as it will not only revamp the public transport system in rural areas but will also generate enough employment options, especially for women.”
The Union Minister also said that the government wants to end the gap between villages and cities. To provides easy and smooth public transport for the villagers, the government takes the same steps.
Pradhan Mantri Gram Parivahan Yojana will be implemented in 250 blocks across the country. Central Government will provide interest-free loan on about 1,500 commercial vehicles with a seating capacity of 10 each. Maximum loan amount will be 6 lakh. The repayment period will be six months.
A survey was carried out in rural areas of Bilaspur in Chhattisgarh to the feasibility of the scheme. After payment of the loan, an individual can earn up to Rs 6,000-9,000 per month.
The subsidized vehicles will connect at least 10-14 villages on a stretch of 20-22 km with 10-12 seat capacity. According to the census of 2011, 33 percent of Indians do not use the motorized transport for traveling, they still travel on foot. Remaining Indian use two-wheelers or any other unsafe mode of transport.
