Focus on hot topic Digital Literacy is getting wide finally, Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has finally approved the ‘Pradhan Mantri Gramin Digital Saksharta Abhiyan’ (PMGDISHA) to extend digital literacy to 6 crore rural households. So under this programme 6 crore rural households would be able to take participate and learn new things. Under this new scheme, the allocated budget for one of the largest digital literacy programmes in the world is Rs.2,351.38 crore. The target of completion of the project is to March 2019. The announcement of approval PMGDISHA was made by our finance minister Arun Jaitley in the Union Budget 2016-17. Arun Jaitley also said the mission is in line with other targets that have been set by the government for this financial year.
Under this PMGDISHA scheme, 25 lakh candidates will be trained in the Financial Year 2016-17, and hence if this work best increasing over the years to 300 lakh candidates in the 2018-19.
Benefits under Pradhan Mantri Gramin Digital Saksharta Abhiyan
The benefits of Pradhan Mantri Gramin Digital Saksharta Abhiyan which is given to people of the rural household are given below:-
a) The digitally trained personnel would be able to operate computers.
b) would be able to operate digital devices. like smartphones and tablets.
c) would be able to send and receive emails, browse the internet, access Government Services.
d) Trained people would be able to search for information.
e) The trained people would be able to make digital payment or cashless transaction under Pradhan Mantri Gramin Digital Saksharta Abhiyan.
The Ministry of Electronics and IT in collaboration with States and Union Territories will be implemented the scheme through designated State Implementing Agencies and District e-Governance Society (DIGS) under Pradhan Mantri Gramin Digital Saksharta Abhiyan.
The main motive of the scheme is promoting cashless transactions through mobile phones, the project curriculum would place emphasis on Digital Wallets, Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD), Mobile Banking, Unified Payments Interface (UPI) and Aadhaar Enabled Payment System (AEPS) under Pradhan Mantri Gramin Digital Saksharta Abhiyan.
