Yesterday, Thawar Chand, the Social Justice Minister had launched Rashtriya Vayoshri Yojana in the state for the empowerment of senior citizens. Recently, this scheme has already been launched in Andhra Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh.
Under Rashtriya Vayoshri Yojana, the senior citizens of the state who belongs to BPL category will be provided with physical aids and assisted-living devices for health-related ailments.
According to Thawar Chand, a budget of Rs 483 crore has been set for the scheme for this year to cover 260 districts in the country by next year.
About 1,500 beneficiaries of Nagpur have already been covered under the scheme.
During this, the social justice minister conducted the Bhoomi Pujan of a Composite Regional Centre (CTC) at the Government Medical College and Hospital here.
During the function, he said that an artificial limbs manufacturing unit and a hostel for students belonging to OBC category would be set up in the city.
According to the Minister, the land for these two projects will be allocated by the state government.
He also informed that a financial assistance of up to Rs 4 lakh will be provided to the needy patients for ailments such as cancer, cochlear implant among others.
