Karnataka Free WiFi Scheme – The Karnataka Cabinet has approved the free Wi-Fi scheme for providing free Wi-Fi in the rural areas of Karnataka State on Wednesday. With a special focus on students, the government is ready to make an agreement with BSNL to provide free internet services to the rural masses.
Details of Karnataka Free WiFi Scheme
Karnataka State law minister TB Jayachandra told the media that this plan has to expand the free Wi-Fi service in rural areas for the next three years. He said, “The state government has decided to provide free Wi-Fi in rural areas with the support of BSNL.
We are planning to make an agreement with BSNL for a period of three years. The scheme is expected to spend Rs 79.50 crore from the public exchequer.
The cabinet has approved the release of funds for this scheme. If the scheme starts, the rural areas of Karnataka will get free Wi-Fi from 2017 to 2020.
The Cabinet had also approved the controversial RERA Bill along with the amendment. Due to the dismal conditions in the state, the cabinet has approved the projects in large numbers.
The Cabinet also sanctioned seven super specialty hospitals of the state. Each of these hospitals will be constructed at a cost of Rs 35 crores.
