Today, the Chief Minister of Gujarat is going to launch the Shramik Annapurna Yojana. In the scheme, the government will provide subsidised meals to labour. The scheme was launched on an experimental basis at 83 hiring points for masons (Kadiyanakas). Now Shramik Annapurna Yojana will be implemented in Ahmadabad, Surat, Rajkot, Gandhinagar, Bhavnagar, Vadodara and Valsad.
The Scheme will inaugurate the scheme in Akhbarnagar Kadiyanaka by the Chief Minister Vijay Rupani on Tuesday and the deputy chief minister Nitin Patel will launch the scheme in Kalol in Gandhinagar. After Inauguration the Chief Minister will address a convention at the Gujarat University Convention centre.
The principal secretary of the labour and employment department, Rajiv Kumar Gupta said, “In all, 5.66 lakh labourers are registered with the labour board. The menu has been changed based on labourers’ feedback, and Some reports suggested that people who are not labourers were queuing up for the meals. We have, therefore, decided to serve food only after digitally checking registration numbers.”
He also said that 95% of registration of the labour had been verified and remains will be verified in soon. Labour and Employment Minister Dilip Thakore said that in the trial period about 25,000 labours was benefitted daily. He also said the government is planning to implement the scheme across the state.
Dilip Thakore said, If we find an agency that meets all norms, we will implement the scheme in all Nagar Palika.” He also said that the state government has allocated the funds for the scheme.
