Ujjwala Plus Yojana – The NDA government can announce the launch of Ujjwala Plus Yojana, which is to increase the coverage of the scheme for free LPG connection to the poor on the upcoming Independence Day. Ujjwala Plus is the next step of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY), which provides free gas connections to women belonging to below poverty line as per the socio-economic caste census (SEC) 2011.
However, for the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, there are many qualified families left out of the SEC for technical reasons and the purpose of Ujjwala Plus is to give benefits to such families as well. Unlike PMUY, which is funded by the government, individuals and organizations will be allowed to donate for Ujjala Plus.
Although Ujjwala Plus was working for a while, this announcement has come after PMUA, PMUY has achieved the target of providing gas connections in the first year of 1.5 crore beneficiaries within eight months of launch. PMUY was started in May 2016 in Baliyan district of Uttar Pradesh.
In order to finalize the plan for the launch of Ujjwala Plus, the ministry has an internal meeting of the last week.
The country’s oil marketing companies, such as IndianOil, Bharat Petroleum and Hindustan Petroleum will have to donate in a bank account opened jointly – which has created a joint venture to create a non-profit organization to fulfill the plan.
An official said, “This account has been opened in Mumbai State Bank of India and people have already donated 6 lakh rupees. An official of the company said that the registrars of joint venture companies are in the process of applying. The donors made for this scheme will be eligible for tax deduction under section 80G of the Income Tax Act and will be accepted under the Foreign Contribution Act.
