Apply for Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana in Punjab

Around 2 crore people have been distributed free LPG connections under Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana. This ambitious scheme was launched by prime minister modi ji to provide free LPG connections in the country. Main aim under this scheme is to provide LPG connection to the women of the rural area and Houses under BPL card holders and hence providing them a healthy way of cooking. Now Punjab has been selected as the next state to provide LPG connections under PMUY scheme. And Barnala district has been selected under this as the first district. Punjab in association with Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas.

Main objective of Prime Minister Ujjwala Scheme

  • The main purpose of this scheme is to promote the use of pure LPG gas in place of unclean fossil fuels used for cooking in rural areas.

  • Help reduce the air pollution caused by the use of fossil fuels.
  • Reducing the serious health hazards associated with fossil fuel based cooking.
  • Reduce the number of deaths in India due to cooking on impure fuels.
  • Prevention of diseases in young children due to acute respiration in indoor air pollution.
Under this scheme, government will distribute 21,912 free LPG connections to the women of poor families of Barnala district.

financial help

Under the scheme, the government is providing financial assistance of 1600 rupees for the LPG connection to eligible BPL families. Under this scheme, LPG connections will be given to women of families.
The government will also provide EMI facility to meet the cost of supplying stoves and cylinders.

Implementation of plan

The plan is being implemented by Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas. It is for the first time in history that the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas is implementing this huge welfare scheme, which will benefit the women belonging to the poorest crores of families in the country.This plan will be completed in three years, i.e., financial year 2016-17, 2017-18 and 2018-19

Eligibility and selection process for the scheme

The eligible BPL families will be identified in consultation with state governments and union territories. Under the scheme, the BPL families, who do not have LPG connection till the beginning of the scheme, can apply for this scheme.The beneficiary will be selected only from the BPL families. However, under the scheme, priority will be given to SC / ST and people of weaker sections. During the distribution of LPG connections, those states will be given priority where there is less LPG coverage compared to the national ratio.
