Coir Udyami Yojana (CUY) is a credit linked subsidy scheme for setting up of coir units with project cost upto Rs.10 lakhs plus one cycle of working capital, which shall not exceed 25% of the project cost. Working capital will not be considered for subsidy.
The Central Government of India led by the Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has launched the Coir Udyami Yojana (CUY) in order to increase and give a new start to the business development in the country. Under this scheme, the government provides loans on easy terms and conditions to start a business. The government also provides easy subsidies to entrepreneurs along with the loan provided. The amount of subsidy provided by the government provides is up-to 40 percent (40% Subsidy) and loan at up-to 55 percent (55% Loan) at low-interest rates with easy terms.

Coir is a natural fibre extracted from the husk of the coconut.
- Coir Industry in India is one of the important rural industries.
- Although the coir industry has traditionally been associated with the State of Kerala, but now this industry has developed in Tamil Nadu, Orrisa, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka.

How to get Benefit Coir Udyami Yojana (CUY)
CUY – Coir Udyami Yojana is the credit linked subsidy scheme for Rejuvenation, Modernization and Technology Upgradation of the Coir Industry (renamed as Coir Udyami Yojana) to facilitate sustainable development of the Coir Industry in the country.
Benefits Under Coir Udyami Yojana
a) CUY will generate more employment opportunities especially for women and the weaker sections of people in rural areas.
b) Coir Udyami Yojana is a Central Sector Scheme.
c) CUY is administered by the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises.
d) The Coir Udyami Yojana (CUY) has been started by the board in which credit linked subsidies are given to the projects of upto 10 lakh.
Implementation of COY (Coir Udyami Yojana)
Coy is being implemented at two different levels as National Level & State Level.
At National Level – By Coir Board a statutory organization under the Ministry of MSME as the Nodal Agency .
At State Level – Board’s Regional Offices, Sub Regional Offices, Coir Mark Scheme Office and District Industries Centers, Coir Project Offices, Banks and such other offices.
To get Government Subsidy under CUY (Coir Udyami Yojana)
a) The Government subsidy under COY scheme released to Coir Board by the central government will be routed through the identified banks for eventual distribution to the beneficiaries/entrepreneurs in their bank accounts.
b) Role of Implementing Agencies – Implementing Agencies such as Coir Board Offices, DIC, Coir Project Offices etc will associate with reputed Non Governmental Organizations (NGOs)/reputed Autonomous Institutions/National Small Industries Corporation/Panchayathi Raj Institutions and other relevant bodies in the implementation of the Scheme especially in the area of identification of beneficiaries, area of specific viable projects and providing training in Entrepreneurship Development, verification of units established.
If anyone wants to start his business, then he can apply for this scheme after having only 5%. The bank will provide 55 percent loan for 7 years, while 40 percent subsidy is given by the Coir board.
Objectives of Coir Udyami Yojana (COY)
The main objectives of the scheme are as
(i) To modernize Coir Industry by adoption of modern technology in production and processing of coir and coir products.
(ii) Up gradation of the production and processing technology for improving the productivity, quality and product diversification.
(iii) To increase the efficiency and productivity for enhancing the earnings of the workers engaged in the sector.
(iv) To enhance the utilization of coconut husk and for increasing the production of coir fiber and coir products.
(v) To generate employment in the rural areas of the coconut producing States/Union Territories.
(vi) To provide more employment opportunities for women in the rural sector for gender empowerment.
(vii) To enhance the socio-economic conditions of the producers/workers engaged in the industry.
(viii) To contribute to inclusive growth of vulnerable sections of beneficiaries especially those belonging to Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST) and North Eastern Region (NER)
(ix) To give sufficient training to the rural youth of the coconut producing States with an eye on attracting them to the fold of coir sector
(x) To provide backward/forward linkages to the unit holders to whom assistance is given under the Scheme.

Services Under CUY (Coir Udyami Yojana)
The government also provides some additional services under COY.
- The board also provides marketing support assistance. It means that all the entrepreneurs who are doing Coir business are created a cluster by adding them together and they are also provided marketing support.
- Not only that, if someone goes to the exhibitions or fairs for the marketing of his product, all the expense is borne by the board.
- Board also helps in hiring the showroom.
- The salaries of the workers working in the cluster are given by the board.
